The latest iPhones have arrived from Apple, but did you know there are quite a few things they didn’t talk much about, or even mention on stage? In this video, I’m going to share five things you might not know about the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro.
The Display
Let’s talk about displays. Apple spent a lot of time talking about how these new iPhones are bigger with more screen real estate. The bezels on these new models are slightly thinner compared to last year’s Pro models. But here’s the thing: it was widely rumored that Apple would introduce the new M14 OLED displays supplied by Samsung, which are supposedly much brighter than the competition. For instance, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has a maximum brightness of 2600 nits, while the recently announced Google Pixel 9 Pro has an impressive peak brightness of 3000 nits. So, where does the new iPhone stand in this brightness race? Well, the answer is—just like last year—we’re still getting 2000 nits of peak brightness on these models. And this isn’t just a gimmick; higher brightness really helps when you’re out in the daylight trying to see your screen. Unfortunately, Apple didn’t introduce a brighter display this year, and this feature might be reserved for next year’s iPhone 17, which is rumored to come with a whole new design.
Charging Speed
Despite Apple’s claims of faster charging, the latest iPhones actually take a bit longer to charge when compared to last year’s models, at least when charging through a wire. For example, the iPhone 16 Pro Max will take about five minutes longer to fully charge compared to last year’s iPhone 15 Pro Max. This is mainly because the new iPhones have larger batteries. There were rumors that Apple would bump up the charging speed to 40 watts with wired charging, but unfortunately, that didn’t turn out to be true. Instead, Apple bumped up the charging speed for MagSafe. The new MagSafe now supports charging up to 25 watts, compared to 15 watts on the previous version. However, this new MagSafe charger will be sold separately. So, the phone and cable you get in the box will still have the same charging speed as last year’s iPhones.
