The wait is finally over! Next week, we’ll finally see the new iPhones from Apple that we’ve all been waiting for.
Bigger and better displays
First up, bigger and better displays. iPhones are getting bigger this year, especially if we talk about the pro models. The smaller iPhone 16 pro is getting a screen size increase from 6.1 inches to 6.3 inches, while the bigger model is going from 6.7 inches to 6.9 inches. Thanks to Apple’s border reduction structure technology, the size of the phones themselves won’t increase dramatically. We’ll only see a slight increase in dimensions. For example, the iPhone 16 pro Max will now be a bit taller and wider to accommodate that bigger display. Also, the thickness is going to increase a little to fit the new, larger battery that Apple has been working on. Right here, you can see the final dummy model of the upcoming iPhone 16 pro Max. When you compare it side by side with the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the difference isn’t that huge, but yes, the phones this year are definitely getting bigger and better.
New Capture Button
Next, we have the all-new capture button. This is something completely new on an iPhone, unlike most features that are just getting improved when compared to last iPhone models. This new capture button will be a dream come true for photographers and videographers. If you look at the dummy model of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, you’ll notice that it replaces the millimeter wave antenna on the US model with this capture button. It will likely be a capacitive touch button. Pressing it slightly will focus the subject, while pressing firmly will capture the shot. It’s also rumored that swiping up or down on this button will control zoom, making the whole photography experience even better. Personally, I’m really excited about this feature because, let’s face it, the iPhone is the world’s most popular camera, and turning it into an even more camera-centric device was the right move by Apple, in my opinion.
Bigger Batteries
This year, Apple is finally giving us the battery upgrade we’ve all been waiting for, and it’s expected to have a significant impact on battery life. They’re focusing more on battery life and better thermal management, especially after the heating issues that plagued the iPhone 15 Pro models last year. However, it’s a little disappointing to see that the iPhone 16 Pro not the Pro Max, will have the smallest battery, even compared to the regular iPhone 16 models. It feels like Apple is forcing us towards the Max model, but I still love that 6.3-inch form factor on the iPhone 16 pro. I just wish Apple had upgraded the battery to at least 4,000 milliamps.
According to Kuo, Apple’s use of a stainless steel casing for the battery allows for a 5% to 10% higher cell density while staying within safety limits and meeting new EU regulations. We’re looking at a 9.28% increase in battery size for the iPhone 16 Pro and a 5.7% increase for the Pro Max. While this is an increase in size, not necessarily battery life, the new A18 chipset and better cooling management should result in better battery performance. Apple is also using new graphene sheets instead of graphite pads, which will help reduce heating on these iPhones.
