So, the wait is finally over! Today, Apple announced their brand-new iPhones, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 pro series.
First up, the design:
The pro iPhones are now bigger and better! The screen size has increased to 6.3 inches on the iPhone 16 pro from the previous 6.1 inches, and 6.9 inches on the iPhone 16 pro Max from 6.7 inches. Thanks to Apple’s border reduction structure technology, the size of these iPhones isn’t significantly larger, even with the increased screen size. Apple has once again pushed the limits of bezels, bringing us closer to a truly bezel less iPhone. The substructure on these iPhones is now made from graphite, so hopefully, we won’t see the heating issues that plagued last year’s iPhone 15 pro models.
Better cameras and a new 48-megapixel ultra-wide camera:
Finally, both the pro and pro Max models support 5x optical zoom, which means it’s no longer exclusive to the pro Max model! Apple has also introduced a new 48-megapixel quad-sensor ultra-wide camera, offering much more detail and clarity for those who never want to miss anything in their frame. This new ultra-wide camera works seamlessly with the capture button on the iPhone. You can now simply swipe up and down to switch between the wide and ultra-wide lenses effortlessly.
The video mode on these iPhones has also improved—you can now record up to 4K at 120 frames per second in log format, which can be recorded to an external storage device at the same time. This is fantastic news for those who love recording professional-quality videos on their iPhones.
Spatial audio recording is another upgrade, thanks to the four audio mics that enhance the quality of voice and sound during recordings. Apple also introduced new studio mixing capabilities, but I think this feature will mainly benefit those who shoot professional-level content on their iPhones, like musicians and cinematic videographers. As an example, Apple showcased this by revealing that “The Weeknd’s” new music video was shot on these iPhones!
Better charging and new MagSafe:
Apple has introduced a new MagSafe charger for faster charging, but it’s sold separately. If you’re buying an iPhone 16 pro this year, you’ll be happy to know that Apple is finally boosting charging speeds—through MagSafe. MagSafe charging speeds are increasing from 15 watts to 25 watts. To improve heat management, Apple has added a larger graphite sheet inside the phone to absorb heat more efficiently, which is great news, especially if you charge your phone while getting ready in the morning.
