The Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL, which are set to directly rival the upcoming iPhone 16 Pro series. Even though, the Google Gemini test, during the keynote didn’t quite go as planned, these new phones still look pretty promising.
So should you get the Google Pixel 9 Pro or if it might be worth waiting for the upcoming iPhones. Now that Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 9 Pro XL, we’ve got all the details on what this phone brings to the table. The XL model boasts a new 42 megapixel selfie camera, which we’re expecting a lot from, a much more capable Gemini AI assistant, and a fresh design that, honestly, looks a lot like the iPhone—and there’s more.
The 9 Pro XL starts at $1,099 for the base 128 gigabyte storage variant, which is a bit higher than its predecessor, but still not as high as the rumored $1,299 price tag for the iPhone 16 Pro Max. However, it’s important to note that the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to start at 256 gigabytes.
Apple has been using a titanium frame for its Pro iPhone models, and we’re expecting the iPhone 16 Pro Max to continue this trend. In comparison, Google is sticking with aluminum for now, so we can expect the iPhone to be more resistant to damage, despite Google’s claims that the Pixel 9 Pro XL is twice as durable as before.
Google has also refreshed the Pixel’s design this year. Besides the new camera module, the rest of the Pixel 9 Pro XL looks remarkably similar to last year’s iPhones, so don’t be surprised if you mistake one for the other.
The Pixel 9 Pro XL features a large 6.8-inch display that can reach a peak brightness of 3,000 nits. Apple is expected to bump up the display size on its phone to 6.9 inches, while keeping a similar form factor. We’re also looking at a brighter display from Apple this time around, possibly reaching 3,000 nits as well.
